Communication with VertX and Edge series of HID

This part of manual will help you to understand how to communicate to VertX and Edge through this application software.
Please follow the procedure given below;

Open Discovery GUI

This tool is used to know how many controllers are in network. It automatically detect controllers from the network and allows user to connect with the particular controller. This tool helps you to select a particular controller and allows software to communicate with that controller.

Configurations >> HID Vertex Tool Box >> Discovery GUI

Select your Controller

Once this tool is open it displays the accompanied window.

  • It lists the number of controllers connected in network.
  • It displays the type of controller (here E400, it's MAC Address, Host Name. Internal ID).
  • To select your controller and to check which is the controller in the list is the same connected by you, click on button Blink ON, along with the controller.
  • Check the LED of the controller if it started blinking from yellow to green. In this discovery tool also, the indicator keeps blinking from green to yellow and so on. If it happens simultaneously at both the places, it is considered as the same controller is connected to the network.
  • Click on the link Configure Unit along with the blinking controller.
  • From the security point of view, it asks for user name and password. To avoid the misuse of the application, authentication is required. Enter here the user name and password. It displays the VertX Basic Setup page.

Controller Basic Setup

  • Keep default setting for Connection Selection - Network.
  • In Basic Network Setup, for VertX Addressing click on Static.
  • Enter the Static IP address for selected controller.
  • Enter Subnet Mask Address. This is used to determine whether the controller connected is in local network.
    • If Subnet mask address is 255.255.255.255, it can connect to a single controller of the network and if it i kept as 255.255.255.0, then it can be connected to multiple controllers of the network. Enter here 0 as a fourth string.
  • Bsic CentralStation/Host Communications Setup:
    • Enter the IP Address of Host computer, the machine from which you want to run the application. (Refer following diagram)
  • Click on the link Change Login Password, if you want to change the existing pasword.
  • Click on submit button.

Save Basic Setup

  • Submitting information of basic etup displays the follwing window, showing the list of configuration you have done. Here you can write down the IP address and MAC Address of the controller for further use.
  • Click on Save button to save configuration.
  • It shows the system status as connected.
After completing the procedure carefully, open the application Snehapadma CentralStation™ Configurator. Using Quick or detailed cofiguration set the Host IP address and IP and MAC addresses of the controllers. Now the controllers are connected to your system and ready to communicate with Snehapadma CentralStation™ Configurator and Snehapadma CentralStation™ Server.

Alternative to Discovery GUI

Contact a VertX controller by directly connecting the computer to the controller using an Ethernet cable. By default, every controller is configured to respond to a fixed address: 169.254.242.121.
    • Ensure you are running a Windows 2000 or XP computer
    • Disconnect your Windows computer from its hub or network
    • Connect the Windows computer to the controller with an Ethernet cable
    • StartStart4 Using the Windows™ Start button, click Start - Run
    • Enter ipconfig /renew -- wait for DHCP to timeout (approximately 60 sec). The computer will acquire a 169.254.x.x address
    • Access a web browser and enter 169.254.242.121Address into the field. The controller is now accessible through this Virtual Port
    Now, follow steps as above.
